Directions: you have just finished your second college paper, and your first (and, likely, last) rhetorical analysis. Please answer the following questions in the form of a paragraph (no more than 200 words). What do you feel you gained from understanding how others use rhetoric in their arguments? What aspect of the unit did you find most useful? How will you use the knowledge from this unit to both create and interpret arguments in the future? Is there anything more you would like to know about rhetoric before we move on?
Due before 5pm on November 6th.
5 points for posting on time
5 points for following directions and answering all the questions.
I feel understanding how others may use rhetoric in their arguments will be extremely useful to me in the future by allowing me to thoroughly look through an argument and decide if someone has a good argument or if they are reaching. I will be able to decipher the aspects of an argument and piece together a writer’s true motive and purpose for writing, allowing me to clearly decide if I agree or not. Also I will be able to construct a sound argument that will uphold to close scrutiny and will be able to persuade the reader towards my side of an argument and get them to feel a certain feeling that I would like them to feel in order to convey my message. I feel the first time we went over the different types of rhetorical devices was thorough and gave me a concise interpretation of what exactly I was supposed o look for or what I was supposed to display.
ReplyDeleteI feel I have gained better awareness to what I am reading now; I have become to be more critical and now try to pick writings apart in order to establish the authors’ methods on how they are trying to make an argument. I felt I learned the most from learning more about the appeals of ethos, pathos and logos. This was actually my first time that I can remember learning those appeals and how to effectively identify them and use them to my benefit. I will be able to better at constructing an argument in the future. There is nothing else at this point that I feel I would like to know about rhetorical analysis's other than that I will likely not have to do this again in the future.
ReplyDeleteI feel that I have gained valuable information regarding the impact that one’s word choice can have on the audience in order to be able to persuade them one way or another. The most useful aspect to me in this unit was learning how to locate logical fallacies in other arguments. The knowledge that I have gained from this unit will help me create an argument that has sufficient evidence, and know how to appeal to my audience in order to be able to persuade them to see what I do. This knowledge has also helped me to be able to see an argument for what it truly is, and not be easily persuaded. There is nothing else that I would like to know about rhetoric's at this time.
ReplyDeleteI think that being able to write a paper on Rhetorical Analysis has helped me learn what to look for and how to better understand what I read, it taught me to look for various things in the readings. The ethos, pathos, and logos are what I found most useful and helped me understand the author better. Going forward I feel I can interpret the readings better, and I feel I can construct an argument better. My writing will certainly improve because I can appeal to different aspects of an argument. I believe I have a good understanding of rhetoric and that I can move on without hesitation.
ReplyDeleteI believe that I understand what a Rhetorical Analysis looks like now and will help me in the future readings. Not really knowing what Ethos, Pathos and Logos meant before, are benefiting aspects now. Before starting an argument I'll make sure I have all three aspects above or at least two of them. I'll make sure to look for them whether it is about a commercial product or politician giving a speech. How to find multiple topics I can write about would be helpful since I still have difficulty finding them.
ReplyDeleteI believe I now have a better grasp on rhetorical arguments. It’s easier for me to read an essay and understand the author better, and whether she/he is using pathos, ethos, and/or logos. From now on I will be looking at everything I read a bit more closely now. Not only will I be looking for what method the author uses, but also how she/he uses it (tone).
ReplyDeletei think by writing this paper i was able to get a better understanding for the actual definition of something being rhetorical and to use it in my own papers. I learned that by using this style of writing was proven to be a lot harder than it seemed and makes me look at a essay or story in a new light. I feel like by using this style of writing i'm able to look at an essay more in depth and have a better understanding of what i'm reading and its a useful understanding to have . I think now i'm also going to take with me the fact that i'am able to understand what i'm reading and are able to pull allot of information out of the essay and find key points as well.
ReplyDeleteI believe that I have gained a better idea of rhetoric arguments by having to try and understand what my class mates have written in their papers. Also I have been able to gain a clearer aspect of what the argument is supposed to be about by breaking the argument down into narrow categories. The most useful part is being able to use this style of writing and learn new ways to address ethos, pathos, and logos. I can use everything I’ve learned in this unit whenever I need to back up an argument or create an argument.
ReplyDeleteI realized that its not easy to write and effective argument. Authors really have put thought into every sentence and every word in order to make it the most effective. The tone part will be useful when understanding writings. When reading and writing future arguments i feel i will have a better grasp of the purpose of and argument. The knowledge i gained form this unit will help me apply effective argument ideas in future papers,
