Directions: You have now officially become awesome. Congratulations! Remember when you couldn't write a research paper? Think about how far you have come! But...think about that for your in-class Final.....
For now, summarize what you learned during Unit 4: from developing a topic to researching that topic to synthesizing your research for that topic into the paper you just wrote, explain what was most helpful and what you wish you knew more about. 100-200 words.
Due before midnight on December 6th (so, by 11:59 p.m. on December 6th).
In this unit I have learned that trying to come up with a topic on your own can be difficult. For me it seems to be easier to write a paper whenever I am told what topic to write it on. I also learned that once you decide on a topic and start researching, don't be so stubborn and adamant about doing that one topic. If you are having a hard time finding the number of sources needed, then keep an open mind about changing topics if possible. However I did learn that if you are given a topic and not allowed to change it, then it is possible to find enough sources if you are persistent enough to stick with it until the end. I thought the most helpful thing that we had available to us was the PPCC database for finding the sources that were needed. At this time the only thing I wish I knew more about was punctuation as this is the area I seem to have the most amount problems with. However I believe this will improve with more practice.
ReplyDeleteI definitely learned how time consuming this was. I never done college level research before and wasn’t expecting the sources to be so hard to sort through. I knew what I wanted to talk about but it was so hard to find that info in the sources. Then when I found that info, other information from different sources didn’t exactly agree with the new info like I wanted it to. I had to reformulate my entire argument a few times but in the end I feel much more confident about my researching skills. I am actually writing one right now for philosophy and I am writing much more fluently now. I feel like I was searching blindly through the beginning phases but I know it was because I probably should have paid more attention in class.
ReplyDeleteThis unit was difficult but very helpful. I did not realize how much research I would have to do. I did a ton of reading and found the ppcc library database very helpful for finding sources. It was not easy at first to find sources that went directly with my topic, but after some research I was able to adapt my thesis and work with the sources I had found while staying within my topic. I learned that synthesizing was not just about finding two things that say the same thing, but two things that are in the same context to discover something new about my topic. This unit has been helpful with my other classes too. I used some of the same techniques for my philosophy paper. If I did not have what I learned on researching in this unit, then my philosophy paper would have been so much harder.
